Det kan manifestere sig gennem f\u00f8lelser af utilstr\u00e6kkelighed, usikkerhed og selvkritik. Personer med lavt selvv\u00e6rd kan have sv\u00e6rt ved at anerkende deres styrker og pr\u00e6stationer, hvilket kan f\u00f8re til angst og undg\u00e5else af udfordringer. De kan ogs\u00e5 have tendens til at sammenligne sig negativt med andre, f\u00f8le sig v\u00e6rdil\u00f8se eller tro, at de ikke fortjener lykke eller succes.
